The Lagos State Government is elevating learning in the state with the distribution of smart digital devices to students.

Under the Hope for Digital Education initiative, the initiative is anchored on the third pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which prioritises Education and Technology as key drivers of a 21st-century economy while also aligning with the national vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Hope Agenda.

From the initiative, about 600,000 public secondary school students are set to benefit as the programme expands.

The initiative is further driven by the State’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, headed by the Commissioner, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.

The Hope for Digital Education initiative is facilitated by the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. The initiative underscores a high-level commitment to modernising pedagogical frameworks across the State.

While the Lagos State Government remains dedicated to expanding digital integration within the classroom, it maintains an unwavering emphasis on the provision of high-quality, accessible textual resources.

The initiative has followed a clear trajectory of growth. From the introduction of learning devices in 2020 to the rollout of smart devices in 2023, the programme now enters a new phase with the distribution of thousands of Hope Digital Learning Tablets to public secondary school students across Lagos State.

Powered by Liv.ing (an MVNO) data-enabled SIMs and the Roducate platform and devices, the initiative delivers a robust suite of curriculum-aligned content, including lessons, videos, mock examinations, and life skills resources.

Combined with simplified textbooks, this integrated model ensures students have continuous access to quality education that lasts a lifetime.

Elias Olawale of the Public Affairs Unit disclosed that the results of the initiative are already evident. He said Public Secondary School students recorded an 80 per cent WAEC pass rate in 2021, representing a significant improvement, with even stronger outcomes expected as the programme continues to expand.
